Henry Miller & I Am the Night
TNT's new show I Am the Night has pulled many of us into the life of Fauna Hodel. Naturally, the character of George Hodel has fascinated viewers with his strange lifestyle and haunting presence. What I found most compelling was the company in which George Hodel kept ( I imagine his parties not too unlike those of Jeffrey Epstein). In addition to John Huston and Man Ray it is said that Henry Miller was in the company of Dr. Hodel on at least one occasion. With both having "unconventional" views of sex and sexuality (and not keeping those views a secret) it makes one wonder if there wasn't more interaction between the two men. Though I cant imagine Henry Miller liking George Hodel. As a matter of fact I'd think he would despise him. While their views on sexuality were not coneventional they were very different. Did they every discuss this? Did George real Miller? did he invite Miller to participate in one of his parties? Not much information is available about the notorious gatherings at the Sowdon House. There are eye witness statements and accounts many of which are conflicting. Some too awful to imagine. In my experience the truth can be as surreal as fantasy.
