                                    I Am Providence

      Four years ago I was introduced to the writing of Caroline Kepnes with the release of her book, You. As a general rule I do not read anything about a book before I read it. Reviews, blurbs, advanced praise, etc. While I will take recommendations or suggestions from a select few, I prefer to read with no expectations. That being said, You still managed to surprise me. The narrator, Joe's voice haunted me for months after reading it, and I was delighted when she released a second novel, continuing his story. 

     In her latest novel, Providence, she delves into a science fiction story with ease and continues to illustrate her grasp of the micro cultures that exist in New England. New England as the back drop to her novels is a place many writers use but is clear do not always understand. Kepnes knows what she is writing in her characters but also knows WHERE she is writing them. A responsibility many writers overlook. Additionally as an H.P. Lovecraft fan from childhood (I have the dogeared paperbacks from middle school to prove it) her addition of him, and his influence in Providence made her story particularly enjoyable for me. 

    Now to wait for what she does next!
